Population Sciences

Population Sciences is a multidisciplinary area that includes demography, epidemiology, biostatistics and human genetics. Population-based data are used to address cancer-related research questions in the areas of demographic processes, genetic risk of cancer, statistical inference and cancer surveillance. Some studies analyze the genetic predisposition to specific cancers, including familial clustering and recurrence. This research provides the basis for identification of novel susceptibility genes as well as genetic and environmental modifiers. Other studies develop statistical models to analyze national cancer trends and interventions, cancer risk and survivorship. Lastly, researchers work with clinical and laboratory colleagues to develop screening studies, clinical trials, and analyze high throughput gene expression data.
